πŸ˜„ About Econ Cow

Once upon a time, I did a bit of economics. The plan was to teach at a liberal arts college. But I found out belatedly that I really didn’t want to be part of the academic economics research game, and so I quit after getting those three little letters.

But I still love teaching and I think online education’s the future. So I decided toΒ devote my professional life to online education.

It seems to me that there’s so much low-hanging fruit that most people are simply overlooking. My ambitious, long-term goal is that by 2050, everyone in the world will have access to free education that’s far better than the best and most expensive schools today can offer. (For more about my thoughts on education and its future, check out my blog posts.)

Which is why I tried making YouTube videos. In early 2014, I made two series of videos on an older channel: sets & functions and preferences & indifference curves.

In late 2015, I rebooted with Econ Cow. The plan was to cover more general topics and pay more attention to entertainment value. The hope was that Econ Cow would have broader appeal and get billions of views, but so far I haven’t been terribly successful.

So please do let me know if you have any suggestions on how I can improve!

About the Econ Cow name

I just wanted a very simple and easy-to-remember name. So I thought “Econ” + “simple animal name”. And the YouTube channel name, dot-com address, Twitter handle, etc. had to be available.

EconCat, EconDog, EconFox, EconRat were all taken. So EconCow was the next best thing. Lol.
